Pool Area, Perimeter & Volume Calculator for Builders
Measuring a standard rectangular pool is easy. But when a client wants a custom, irregular shape with multiple angles, estimating your materials on the back of a napkin usually leads to mistakes.
The Pool Quoting Calculator at sitemath.net is designed specifically for pool builders, landscapers, and fencing contractors. Instead of wrestling with complex geometry formulas, you simply enter the measurements exactly as you walk them in the yard. The engine automatically calculates the total perimeter, surface area, and liquid volume, while drawing a 2D scale model of the pool right on your screen.
Pool Quoting Calculator
1. Global Settings
2. Pool Perimeter Geometry
Enter the length of each wall and the internal angle turning into the next wall. The final closing line is calculated automatically.
Quoting Metrics
Sample Data For Pool Quoting Calculator (L-Shaped Pool)
Leave the units set to Meters (m).
1. Depths
Shallow Depth: 1.2
Deep Depth: 1.8
2. Wall Segments
Click the "+ Add Wall Segment" button so you have 5 total rows, and enter these distances and internal angles:
Wall 1: Dist = 8.0 | Int Angle = 90
Wall 2: Dist = 4.0 | Int Angle = 90
Wall 3: Dist = 4.0 | Int Angle = 270 (This creates the internal corner of the "L")
Wall 4: Dist = 4.0 | Int Angle = 90
Wall 5: Dist = 4.0 | Int Angle = 90
3. Your quoting metrics should read exactly like this:
Total Perimeter: 32.000 m (It calculated the final closing wall as exactly 8.000 m)
Surface Area: 48.00 sq m
Average Depth: 1.50 m
Estimated Volume: 72.00 cu
Liquid Volume: 72,000 Liters
Built for Real-World Site Measuring
When quoting a custom pool, you are usually standing in a backyard with a tape measure or a laser distance meter. Our tool mimics that exact workflow using sequential distance and angle inputs.
- Calculate Irregular Pool Shapes: Start at one corner and work your way around the design. Enter the length of the first wall, followed by the internal angle turning into the next wall. Add as many segments as you need to build the shape.
- Auto-Closing Wall Calculation: You don’t even need to measure the final wall. Once you have entered your known distances and angles, the calculator automatically calculates the exact closing distance and angle required to snap the shape shut.
- Accurate Material Takeoffs: The instant the shape closes, the engine provides the total perimeter (for coping and fencing) and the exact surface area (for digging, concrete, and plaster estimating).
Liquid Volume & Average Depth Estimating
A pool builder’s quote isn’t complete until the pump is sized and the water is ordered. Calculating liquid volume requires knowing the depth, but most pools slope from a shallow end to a deep end.
Our calculator uses the industry-standard average depth method to generate your volume takeoffs:
- Enter Your Depths: Input the planned shallow end depth and deep end depth.
- Cubic Volume Calculation: The tool instantly calculates the average depth and multiplies it by your custom surface area to give you the total cubic volume (Cubic Meters or Cubic Feet).
- Liquid Volume Conversion: Depending on the units you select, the tool automatically converts the cubic space into actual liquid measurements, outputting strictly in Liters or US Gallons so you can correctly size your filtration system.
Interactive 2D Pool Drawing
Numbers on a screen are great, but a visual check guarantees you haven’t made a typo. As soon as you hit calculate, our geometry engine renders a true-to-scale 2D drawing of your pool footprint. It locks the X and Y axes perfectly, meaning the shape you see on the screen is exactly proportional to the pool you are going to dig. If an angle is entered backwards, you will see it immediately.
How to Generate Your Pool Quote
We built this tool to be fast, frictionless, and mobile-friendly for contractors out in the field.
- Select Your Units: Choose between Meters, US Survey Feet, or International Feet. The calculator will adapt all area and volume outputs to match.
- Enter Depths (Optional): Plug in your shallow and deep end measurements if you need volume and water capacity.
- Add Wall Segments: Enter the distance and interior angle for each leg of the pool. Click “+ Add Wall Segment” to keep building the shape.
- Calculate & Draw: Hit the button to close the shape, generate your quoting metrics, and render the 2D blueprint.
- Batch Save and Export: If you are quoting multiple design options for a client, click Save Quote after each one. When you are done, click Export All to download a clean CSV spreadsheet containing every perimeter, area, and gallon calculation.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I calculate pool volume with a shallow and deep end? The most accurate estimating method without building a complex 3D CAD mesh is to find the average depth. You add the shallow end depth and the deep end depth together, then divide by two. You then multiply that average depth by the total surface area of the pool. Our calculator handles this entire process automatically.
What if I don’t know the exact internal angles? If you are designing a freeform pool, it is often easier to stake out the major corner points in the yard first. You can then measure the distances between the stakes and use a digital protractor or a basic site level to measure the internal angles before plugging them into the calculator.
Does this calculate gallons or liters? Both. The calculator is unit-aware. If you select Meters from the dropdown, your volume will output in Liters. If you select US Feet or International Feet, your volume will automatically output in US Gallons.
